What I'd Buy and Why

If you own a Tesla and you ride bikes, here's the honest answer.

For the car: Get the factory hitch and a mid-tier tray rack. The Thule T2 Pro XT at $429 is my pick. It held two bikes at 75 mph with zero wobble, the hatch opens, and the cameras stay visible. It costs more than the cheap stuff, but it's the difference between a rack that works and a rack that scares you. I've been scared. It's not worth saving $200.

For the garage: The Sttoraboks vertical stand at $39.99. Add washers, replace the velcro with bungee cords, and you're done in 20 minutes. It rolls, it holds a 29er, and it doesn't eat floor space. I've paid $150 for stands that do less.

Skip: The $219 budget tray rack, the $129 hanging rack, and anything that clamps to the glass roof. I tested all three. All three failed. The hanging rack wobbled at 45 mph. The tray rack had straps too feeble to trust. The roof mount creaked before I hit the highway.
